2022-2-9 · The water dissolves the limestone, creating cavities. As the limestone is dissolved, a water-filled cavity forms. As more of the limestone is dissolved, the cavity grows in size. If the water is removed or if the ceiling of the cavity gets too thin, it can sag or collapse, forming a sinkhole, and anything on top falls into the depression or hole.
